You can’t see a whole floor in a sample the size of a coaster.
Most people compare floors in the worst possible way: tiny samples, showroom lighting, online photos and vague advice.
But the floor has to work in your home. With your light, your furniture, your kitchen, your subfloor, underfloor heating, children, pets, budget and everyday life.
The right floor is about more than colour.
Two floors can look almost identical as samples and behave very differently once they’re down.
How it’s finished
The oil or lacquer affects how the floor looks, wears, marks and how you’ll maintain it.
What’s underneath
Your subfloor needs to be level, sound and dry, and some styles are far less forgiving than others.
How you live
Children, pets, natural light and foot traffic all change what will work best.
How it’s fitted
Plank, herringbone and chevron have very different fitting and preparation needs.
A clearer way to choose the right floor
We’ll help you make sense of the options, rule out what won’t work, and you’ll leave knowing which floors are genuinely worth considering.
Pick a time
Bring questions, plans, photos or inspiration if you have them. If you don’t, that’s fine too.
We get to know your home
Your project, style, budget, light, and how the space is actually used.
We narrow it down
Which floors are worth considering, and which ones aren’t.
You leave with clarity
What to choose, what to rule out, what needs checking and what happens next.
You’ll know what to choose, and why.
- The 2 or 3 floors genuinely worth considering for your home
- Why they work with your light, layout, lifestyle and budget
- What to rule out, so you can stop second guessing
- A clear next step: large samples, an estimate, a measure, a showroom visit or an order

I built Kite because I bought the wrong floor.
Ed Grant, founder of Kite FlooringI went through the same process most homeowners go through. Visited showrooms. Ordered samples. Got overwhelmed by the options. Then made a decision I wasn’t fully confident in.
We didn’t build Kite to sell flooring. We built it to match people with the right floor for their home.

Most of our clients felt stuck before they found us
“I think I must have visited about 6 floor shops and spent hours online before finally and gratefully finding Kite. Simple questions were finally answered.”
Juliet Riddell
“I spent almost a year trying to find the right floor and visited at least a dozen flooring companies. Ed spent a considerable amount of time explaining the difference between the ranges, wood treatments and durability.”
Humayun Rashid
“They showed me a wide range of different floors, colours and finishes. Ed was extremely knowledgeable. He knew his stuff and made me feel confident about my choices.”

The cost of a floor isn’t just the price of the boards.
One of the most common mistakes we see is comparing floors purely on £ per m². A finished floor normally has three main costs:
The floor
The timber, grade, width, pattern and finish all affect the price.
The subfloor
What’s underneath may need levelling, strengthening or moisture preparation.
The fitting
A plank floor is a very different job from a fully bonded herringbone or chevron.
We’ll talk through all three on your call, so there are no surprises later.
A few things people often ask
How does the call work?
It’s a WhatsApp video call, so there’s nothing to download and no links to hunt for. When you book, just give us the mobile number your WhatsApp is on and we’ll call you at your booking time. Being on WhatsApp also makes it easy to send us photos of your room, or plans, before or after the call.
Do I need to know which floor I want before the call?
Not at all. Most people book because they don’t know yet, and that’s exactly what the call is for. If you’ve got photos, plans or a Pinterest board, bring them. If not, just bring the room.
Am I going to be sold to on the call?
No. We do supply and fit floors, so if one of ours is right for you we’ll say so. But the call is there to help you decide, not to push you into anything. Plenty of people take a few weeks to think it over, and that’s fine.
What happens if I find a floor I like?
We’ll agree a sensible next step together. Usually that’s posting you some large samples, giving you an estimate, booking a measure, or inviting you to see the full-size boards in our Shoreditch showroom.
Can I save money by ordering my floor in advance?
Yes. If your project is a few months away, our Forward Order Scheme saves you 15% for planning ahead. We’ll tell you on the call whether it makes sense for you.
Do you fit the floors too?
Yes. We supply and fit across London and the Home Counties with our own CHAS accredited fitters. It’s why our advice is based on what actually happens on site, not what looks nice in a brochure.
