Oak stair cladding · StairFlow by Kite

Stair cladding that’s finally as beautiful as your floor.

Tired, mismatched stairs are the one thing that breaks the flow of a beautiful home. We spent years perfecting a better way. StairFlow is the result: a continuous oak stair cladding system, made bespoke for your staircase and matched to your floor, seamlessly.

The problem

Why most stair cladding falls short.

We’ve clad hundreds of staircases. Along the way, we found six problems nobody had properly solved.

01

Colour inconsistency

Nosings and planks come from different oak batches, making a perfect colour match difficult, especially on mid-range floors where staining isn’t always possible. The difference is subtle, but you’ll see it.

02

Visible bevels

Many nosings carry a 1 to 2mm bevel between nosing and plank. A small detail, but one that stops you getting the truly seamless finish a well-renovated home deserves.

03

Height variation

Small batch-to-batch differences in nosing height can leave the nosing sitting proud of the plank. That’s both a trip hazard and an eyesore.

04

Limited coverage

Standard nosings only reach 70mm into the tread. In our view, that isn’t enough to create real visual flow with the rest of the timber.

05

Solid steps move

Solid timber steps expand and contract with humidity, are very hard to fit around winders, and often arrive unfinished, which means fresh oiling and colour-matching headaches.

06

Traditional & clunky

Almost everything on the market is designed for traditional staircases: large, heavy profiles in shiny yellow lacquer. Nothing for modern homes. Nothing elegant.

The StairFlow system

A continuous system.
Zero compromises.

Because we’re never satisfied with “ok”, we engineered StairFlow: our own continuous stair cladding system that solves every one of those problems. Timber from the same batch as your floor. A hidden bevel. No height variation. Proper coverage. A seamless result.

✓

Same-batch timber matching

Oak from the same production batch as your floor. No colour difference, no compromises.

✓

The smallest micro-bevel possible

Tread and nosing form one continuous piece. Where there’s a bevel, it’s the smallest achievable: barely perceptible, never distracting.

✓

Full tread coverage

Deep coverage across the whole tread creates genuine visual flow from floor to landing.

✓

Contemporary finishes

Matt lacquers and oiled finishes. No shiny, yellowing lacquer. Works in modern and traditional homes alike.

FAQ

Common questions about StairFlow.

How much does StairFlow cost?

StairFlow starts from £180 per step, including VAT. The final figure depends on your staircase, including any winders, so we confirm your exact price in a written quote after your consultation. Delivery within London and the Home Counties is £120 inc. VAT.

Will StairFlow work on winder stairs?

Yes. StairFlow is specifically engineered to handle winders, which is one of the areas where conventional nosing systems fall short. Matching planks are used to backfill winders with a click system.

How long does a stair cladding installation take?

Most staircases are completed in one to two days. The exact time depends on the number of steps and whether you have winders. A 14-step staircase normally takes one fitter about two days.

How does StairFlow match my existing floor?

If you buy your floor through us, we can use the same timber for the nosings as the floor. We can also colour match existing floors, but it’s harder to guarantee an exact finish. Colour match is one of the key advantages over standard nosing systems.

What finishes are available?

StairFlow is available oiled or lacquered, and most of our colour finishes are available.

Is StairFlow a stair cladding kit?

Not in the usual sense. Off-the-shelf stair cladding kits come in standard sizes and a stock oak, so they rarely match your floor. StairFlow is made bespoke for your staircase, in oak from the same batch as your floor. In London and the Home Counties we can recommend installation teams. Further afield, we provide full instructions for your own fitters.

Do you supply stair cladding outside London?

Yes. Delivery to London and the Home Counties is £120 inc. VAT. For anywhere else in the UK, just ask and we’ll quote delivery, and we’ll send full fitting instructions for your fitters.

How long does it take to make?

All our stair cladding is made bespoke in Europe, a bit like your sofa, so please allow 12 weeks from order to delivery.
