Why we like it?
- A weathered, grey-brown floor inspired by the stained oak boards of old French train wagons. It looks like timber that’s done a hard working life, but it’s on a stable engineered board that’s ready to fit.
- The wood has unfilled knot holes and cracks, with band saw marks for extra texture.
- Seven separate processes go into this finish. They include smoking the boards in a chamber full of ammonia, wire brushing, band sawing, distressing the bevels, bleaching and layering reactive stains, before the boards are finished with UV oil. That’s what gives it a worn, weathered look rather than one flat colour.
- The oak is European, and the floor is made in China, where it’s brushed and sawn. Oiling then takes place in Belgium. This supply chain lets us put a lot of work into the wood for a lower price.
Why you should look elsewhere?
Rustic floors aren’t for everyone. If you’re looking for a modern, clean look then our Clissold Range is more suitable.
Every process we add to the wood adds to the price. Seven processes makes this one of our more expensive floors. If you like the reclaimed look but want to spend less, have a look at Joe, which is on the same board with fewer processes.
This floor is only available in 190mm width straight board (it’s how we keep costs down…). Chevron or Herringbone in an equivalent finish is possible, but would be a bespoke floor.
